'Green Book' Wins Best Picture, 3 other Phoenix Film Critics Society 2018 Awards
PHOENIX - DEC. 18, 2018Phoenix Film Critics Society has announced its 2018 award winners. Peter Farrelly’s "Green Book," captured Best Picture honors, along with three other wins. The drama was honored for Best Actor (Viggo Mortensen), Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali), and Best Screenplay. In number of awards, the film tied with Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma,” which won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
“Green Book is the movie everyone was talking about to me,” says PFCS President Gayle Bass of the top honoree. “It was the one that everyone seemed to be recommending to their friends.”
Lady Gaga received Best Actress for Bradley Cooper’s version of “A Star is Born,” which also took this year’s award for Best Song with “Shallow.” Emma Stone won Best Supporting Actress for her turn in “The Favourite,” which also received the award for Best Costumes, while Elsie Fisher won both the Breakthrough Performance and the Best Performance by a Youth awards for her work in Bo Burnham’s "Eighth Grade.” The Dick Cheney biopic “Vice” took Best Ensemble Acting, and Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” took Best Animated Film.
The Best Adapted Screenplay award went to “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” while best documentary went to “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” "Black Panther" took Best Visual Effects, and "First Man" was honored for Best Original Score.
The PFCS also awards the film they feel audiences missed, but shouldn't have, with "The Overlooked Film of the Year" award. This year it was given to Bart Layton’s "American Animals."
“I’m glad there was such variety this year,” says Bass. “It was a competitive year for interesting movies, with a lot to like.”

The Phoenix Film Critics Society presents an entire slate of awards each year. To qualify for the 2018 awards, films had to be screened in the Phoenix area by Friday, Dec. 14, 2018. Only critic members of the Society may vote. The films must open in theaters prior to the end of the year to be eligible for awards consideration.
